3rd Annual Fear to Hope: Coastal Resilience Symposium

Thursday, April 18, 2024
Peebles Theater at Christopher Newport University

The symposium is science research-focused and addresses coastal resilience challenges related to salt in forests and communities where sea-level rise and storms are predicted to increase recurrent flooding. The symposium schedule is designed to optimize small group conversations of students and professionals and will focus on what the student’s scientific research is showing as well as conversations about what the mission and experience of those who work as a STEAM environmental professional.

10:00 am - 10:30 am : Awards Ceremony

10:30 am - 11:30 am : Student Colloquy

11:30 am - 1:00 pm : Research and Career Colloquy

1:00 pm - 1:30 pm : Closing Remarks

2:30 pm - 4:00 pm: Environmental Professional                                                  Breakout Sessions

Symposium Design

During the Colloquy Sessions:

  • High school students and environmental professionals engaged in career and research-based discussions 

  • Students presented their research poster to college students, professors, and professionals

Each governmental and non-governmental agency brought multiple representatives to facilitate these discussions.
